Coast Guard searches for missing 48‑year‑old paddleboarder off Jupiter Beach

The U.S. Coast Guard announced Monday that it is actively searching for a 48‑year‑old man who disappeared while paddleboarding off Jupiter Beach, a popular spot on Florida’s Atlantic coast. The missing paddler was last seen at approximately 9 a.m., heading east on a 14‑foot lime‑green and yellow paddleboard.

According to the Coast Guard’s Southeast Division, the man was wearing a white hat, an orange shirt, and gray shorts at the time he was observed. He was reported to be alone on the board, and his whereabouts have been unknown since the sighting.

Search effort details

Coast Guard assets, including a patrol boat and an aerial unit, have been deployed to cover the area roughly four miles offshore from Jupiter Beach. The agency is coordinating with local law‑enforcement partners and volunteer rescue groups to broaden the sweep.

“Our teams are conducting a thorough surface and aerial search to locate the missing individual as quickly and safely as possible,” a Coast Guard spokesperson said. “We ask the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings or information that could assist the operation.”

How the public can help

Anyone who may have seen the paddleboarder, noticed unusual activity on the water, or has any relevant information is urged to contact Sector Miami at 305‑535‑4472. The Coast Guard emphasizes that even seemingly minor details—such as a brief glimpse of a board or a splash—can be crucial to locating the missing paddler.

Local residents are also reminded to practice water safety, especially when venturing out on paddleboards or other small craft. The Coast Guard recommends checking weather conditions, wearing a personal flotation device, and letting someone on shore know the planned route and expected return time.

Community response

Friends and family of the missing man have expressed concern and gratitude for the swift response from the Coast Guard. “We’re hopeful that the search will bring him home safely,” a family member said, requesting privacy while the investigation continues.

The incident underscores the importance of preparedness and community cooperation in maritime safety. As the search continues, the Coast Guard remains committed to a thorough effort and will provide updates as new information becomes available.
