Charlie Kirk statue vandalized with red paint and crossed‑out Jesus in Phoenix

Early Sunday morning, volunteers and staff at Turning Point USA’s Phoenix headquarters discovered that the eight‑foot bronze statue of Charlie Kirk, unveiled just three days earlier, had been smeared with bright red paint. The vandalism also included a crude frowning face drawn across the statue’s chest and the words “Jesus” and a cross crossed out on a nearby sign, with the word “Satan” scrawled in their place.

Family and organization vow to restore the memorial

Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk and current CEO of Turning Point USA, responded on social media with a defiant promise to rebuild the tribute. She wrote that the vandals would not erase her husband’s legacy or silence Christians, adding, “God will not be mocked.” Kirk recalled her husband’s own words about building two statues for every one that is torn down, emphasizing that the attack would only amplify his voice.

Turning Point USA’s chief operating officer, Tyler Bowyer, called the perpetrators “radical criminals” and condemned the act as an affront to the community. “This isn’t the country we want to live in,” Bowyer wrote, adding that Arizona is “not Gotham.” He praised the Phoenix police for their investigation and asked supporters to pray for the perpetrators’ repentance.

Police investigation underway

Phoenix police confirmed they received calls around 8:09 a.m. reporting the vandalism near 4900 East Beverly Road. Officers responded to the scene and opened an investigation. No arrests have been made and no suspect descriptions have been released as of Sunday afternoon.

The organization released video of the damage and urged its supporters to vote in the upcoming midterm elections, stating, “Hate cannot win. The radical Left is showing up to vote. What are you doing to save the country from this?” TPUSA also pledged to clean and restore the statue and replace the damaged signage while reviewing surveillance footage.

Political and faith‑based reactions

Republican lawmakers from Arizona quickly condemned the act. Rep. Abe Hamadeh (R‑Ariz.) called the vandalism “truly abhorrent” and blamed the left for intolerance and militancy. Rep. Andy Biggs (R‑Ariz.) described the incident as “absolute evil.” Conservative commentator Benny Johnson accused the vandals of trying to intimidate Kirk’s supporters, calling them “demons” who are incapable of building anything.

Faith‑focused responses highlighted the biblical context of persecution. Turning Point USA quoted John 15:18, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first,” and staff members expressed prayers for the perpetrators, asking God to open their eyes and hearts.

Future security plans

The statue, created by Utah artist Quintin McCann, captures Kirk’s signature “Freedom” T‑shirt, cross necklace, and even his wedding ring. While initially placed outside the headquarters, TPUSA plans to move the sculpture indoors for added security by the end of the week.

Local officials, including Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, have not directly commented on the vandalism, though the incident adds to ongoing tensions surrounding political violence in the state.

How the community can help

Turning Point USA asks anyone with information about the vandalism to contact Phoenix police or the Silent Witness tip line at 480‑WITNESS. The organization emphasizes that the attack will not deter its mission to empower the next generation of conservative voices.
