Broward Parents Arrested After Toddler Tests Positive for Cocaine

A troubling incident in Broward County has led to the arrest of Charles Bernard Adams, 42, and Alexandra Adams, 34, after their 2-year-old daughter tested positive for cocaine. The Broward Sheriff’s Office arrested the couple on charges of child neglect without great bodily harm.

Incident Details

The case unfolded on May 21 when the young girl was found unresponsive and was taken to a hospital by Pompano Beach Fire Rescue. According to reports, Charles Adams placed the child in her bed before he and his wife took a nap. He was awakened by the child’s shallow breathing and called 911.

At the hospital, a Department of Children and Families investigator was informed that the toddler’s urine screening showed cocaine presence. Further tests revealed that both parents tested positive for multiple drugs, including amphetamines, benzodiazepine, and Kratom.

Legal Proceedings

In response to the situation, the couple’s other daughter, aged 4, was removed from their custody as the investigation continues. During a court appearance, a judge set their bonds at $30,000 each, ordered random drug testing, and mandated a substance abuse evaluation. The parents are prohibited from contacting their children until a dependency court judge is involved.
