Second Lady Usha Vance visited the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs on May 28, where she highlighted the significance of childhood literacy. During her visit, she was joined by two-time Olympian and six-time world champion wrestler Adeline Gray. Together, they read “If You Can Dream It, Be It” by Team USA bobsled pilot Riley Tejcek to a group of local students.
Encouraging Literacy and Excellence
Vance expressed her admiration for the athletes at the training center, stating, “What an honor it was to visit such an incredible space and meet the Team USA athletes who are representing our country so well.” She emphasized that Team USA fosters excellence and inspires children to fulfill their potential, a goal she shares by promoting childhood literacy.
In line with her commitment to literacy, the Second Lady has launched a Summer Reading Challenge in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The challenge encourages children to read 12 books over the summer. Participants who complete the challenge will receive a personalized certificate and an America 250th-anniversary-themed bookmark. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to win a visit to the nation’s capital and the White House.
