Wednesday night’s baseball fans at ABC Supply Stadium in Beloit witnessed a disappointing finish for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. After a strong start to the season, the Rattlers saw their three‑game winning streak snapped with a 4‑1 loss to the Beloit Sky Carp.
Early scoring puts the Rattlers on the back foot
Beloit struck first in the bottom of the first inning, loading the bases with two walks and a single. Starting pitcher Chandler Welch hit Abrahan Ramirez with a 1‑2 pitch, forcing in the game’s opening run. Welch retired the next two batters, limiting the damage to a single run.
The Sky Carp added a second run in the second inning when Emilio Barreras walked with one out and later doubled after a sacrifice. Barreras then delivered a solo home run in the fourth and an RBI double in the sixth, extending Beloit’s lead to 4‑0.
Rattlers fight back but run out of arms
Wisconsin answered with two‑out rallies in the second and fourth innings, loading the bases each time, but Sky Carp starter Nate Payne escaped both threats with strikeouts.
Pitching depth became a glaring issue for the Rattlers. Scheduled starter Jayden Dubanewicz was scratched before the game, prompting Welch to make his second start of the season. Welch lasted 2 2/3 innings, surrendering the first two runs. Reliever Josh Quezada followed, striking out six over 2 1/3 innings but gave up Barreras’ fourth‑inning homer.
Closer Bjorn Johnson, who earned a save on Tuesday, entered the bottom of the sixth but was forced out after allowing a triple to Esmil Valencia. He left the mound in discomfort and did not return.
Another reliever, Tanner Perry, entered after Johnson and gave up the Barreras double before finishing the inning. After just 29 pitches on Tuesday, Perry was also unavailable for the remainder of the night.
Position player steps in, but the damage is done
With the bullpen depleted, the Rattlers turned to position player Luiyin Alastre for the bottom of the seventh inning. This marked the third time this season Alastre has been called upon to pitch. He managed two shutout innings, allowing two hits and recording one strikeout, but the Rattlers could not generate enough offense to overcome the deficit.
Wisconsin stranded twelve runners and went 2‑for‑10 with runners in scoring position. The lone run came in the top of the seventh when Juan Ortuño singled home Daniel Dickinson after a walk‑heavy sequence.
Looking ahead
The series finale is scheduled for Friday night at 6:05 p.m. at ABC Supply Stadium. Andrew Healy (0‑2, 5.71 ERA) is slated to start for the Timber Rattlers, while Emmett Olson (0‑0, 8.00 ERA) will take the mound for the Sky Carp.
Fans hope the Rattlers can regroup and address their pitching depth issues before the next series, keeping the focus on strong family‑friendly entertainment at the ballpark.
