The Justice Department announced that the FBI has seized more than $560,000 in cryptocurrency tied to Hamas fundraising operations. The seizure also included control of several internet domains and servers that the terrorist organization used to solicit donations and recruit supporters worldwide.
Operation disrupts Hamas financing network
According to the department, the operation broke an ongoing financing network linked to Hamas’ military wing, the Al Qassam Brigades. The State Department has designated Hamas as a foreign terrorist organization since 1997.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro warned the perpetrators, saying, “Your networks are not secure, your crypto is vulnerable, and we will not stop until your ability to wage war is defeated.”
How the crypto trail was uncovered
Court records show that FBI confidential human sources responded to an email address posted on the site AlQassam.ps after online messages urged supporters to request donation instructions. The responders supplied a rotating series of cryptocurrency wallet addresses, including those for Tether’s USDT stablecoin.
Investigators employed blockchain analysis and crypto‑exchange records to trace contributions as the network consolidated and moved funds through exchanges, over‑the‑counter brokers, and digital bridge services.
Warrants and seizures
Federal judges signed three cryptocurrency warrants on March 25, June 25 and October 10, 2025, authorizing three rounds of seizures that together total roughly $560,000. The first seizure netted about $201,400 after tracing more than $1.5 million through the fundraising network.
Additional warrants were issued on July 29 and August 18, 2026, targeting the domains alaqsaflood.org, host.alaqsaflood.org, and two servers associated with AlQassam.ps. Those assets were used to distribute donation instructions and other material to supporters worldwide.
The warrants required service providers to lock the domains and servers and redirect them to FBI‑controlled name servers. This takeover allowed agents to intercept further donations and gather information on thousands of individuals who contacted Hamas to donate or attempted to do so.
Ongoing investigation
The FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office continues to investigate the case alongside the bureau’s Counterterrorism Division, Cyber Division, and New York Field Office.
Federal authorities have also targeted alleged Hamas financing through nonprofit networks. In January, the Treasury Department sanctioned six Gaza‑based organizations accused of supporting Hamas and an overseas advocacy network allegedly controlled by the group.
