Turnpike Lanes Closed in Palm City After Semi Truck Hits Bridge

In Palm City, Florida, both northbound and southbound lanes of the Turnpike have been closed following an incident where a semi truck crashed into a bridge on Wednesday evening. The accident occurred near the Stuart exit at Southwest Martin Highway.

Emergency Response and Safety Measures

Martin County Fire Rescue and the Martin County Sheriff’s Office were quick to respond to the scene. Upon inspection, minor cracking was found on one of the bridge’s support pillars. As a precautionary measure, all lanes of the Turnpike have been closed to allow engineers to conduct a thorough investigation of the damage.

The driver of the truck, who was alone in the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and declined transportation to a medical facility. The truck was reportedly carrying a load of tires at the time of the accident.

Impact on Local Traffic

Traffic is currently being diverted off the Turnpike as the investigation continues. Authorities are working diligently to assess the structural integrity of the bridge and ensure the safety of all motorists before reopening the lanes.

WPBF 25 News is actively seeking further information from the Florida Highway Patrol and the Martin County Sheriff’s Office to provide updates as the situation develops.
