Monroe Township Fire Chief and Firefighter on Leave During Investigation

In Monroe Township, Fire Chief Greg Lang and firefighter Emily “Hope” Rodriguez have been placed on administrative leave as an investigation is underway. The township has enlisted Holly Isaacs, the village of Bethel’s administrator, to conduct an internal investigation, though the specific reasons remain undisclosed.

Details of the Investigation

Chief Greg Lang was placed on administrative leave effective April 30, with instructions to surrender his township-issued items, including keys, a car, a laptop, passwords, and a cellphone. Firefighter Emily Rodriguez was placed on paid administrative leave eight days later. The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office was involved to analyze a township-issued cellphone belonging to Lang, as requested by the assistant prosecutor representing Monroe Township. Chief Deputy Mike White clarified that the Sheriff’s Office is not conducting an investigation into Chief Lang at this time, but has handed over the analysis results to the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office.

Background Incident

Several months prior to this development, police body camera footage captured an incident involving Lang at Rodriguez’s home during a disturbance. The New Richmond police responded after Lang’s wife accused him of infidelity. During the incident, Lang identified Rodriguez as a coworker. Although Lang denied any physical altercation with his wife, he was arrested and charged with domestic violence. He was later acquitted of these charges and resumed his duties as fire chief. Township officials have not confirmed if this incident is related to the current investigation involving Lang and Rodriguez.

The community remains uncertain about the reasons behind the investigation, with both Lang and Rodriguez currently off duty.
