O’Reilly Hospitality Plans New Restaurant at Former Houlihan’s Site in South Springfield

Springfield business owners and residents will soon see a new restaurant concept take shape at the former Houlihan’s location in Farmers Park. O’Reilly Hospitality Management, led by CEO Tim O’Reilly, submitted a series of permits to the City of Springfield for a renovation project at 2110 E. Republic Road. The project, filed under the name SO‑MO Social Hub, is slated to begin on August 27 and finish by October 30, 2026.

Renovation details and timeline

The permits describe a straightforward renovation rather than a major construction overhaul. Planned improvements include new lighting, a gas fireplace, and other interior updates designed to create a welcoming atmosphere for diners. The city records list the project’s declared valuation at $100,000, reflecting a modest investment aimed at revitalizing a space that has been vacant for more than two years.

Ownership and background

The 6,800‑square‑foot property is owned by Republic Road LLC, a company registered to Tim O’Reilly according to Missouri Secretary of State filings. O’Reilly Hospitality Management is also the franchisee that previously operated the Houlihan’s restaurant at this site, which closed in January 2024 after a 12‑year run.

During the closure, the surrounding Farmers Park mixed‑use area continued to serve the community with shops, restaurants, and a weekly farmers market. In early 2026, the adjacent Farmers Park property was sold by Green Circle Projects—owned by Tim O’Reilly’s cousin, Matt O’Reilly—to Edgewood Real Estate Investment Trust.

Community impact

Local leaders and neighborhood residents have expressed optimism that the new venture will fill the void left by Houlihan’s and contribute to the economic vitality of south Springfield. The project’s modest scale suggests a focus on creating jobs and offering a new gathering place without overwhelming the existing character of Farmers Park.

City officials have not yet approved the permits, and the review process remains ongoing. The Daily Citizen’s attempts to interview Tim O’Reilly have not resulted in a meeting, but the company confirmed via email that plans are moving forward.

Looking ahead

If approved, the SO‑MO Social Hub could open its doors shortly after the renovation’s projected completion date in late October. The development aligns with broader efforts to rejuvenate south Springfield’s commercial corridors and provide families and faith‑centered communities with additional dining options close to home.
