Louisville Man Killed in Police Standoff Linked to Attacks on Homeless

In a disturbing case that has shaken the Louisville community, police have revealed new details about Michael Hristov, a 21-year-old man who was killed by officers during a standoff earlier this month. Hristov, who lived on W. Whitney Avenue near Churchill Downs, is suspected of targeting homeless individuals in a series of brutal attacks.

Details of the Crimes

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD), Hristov is accused of murdering a homeless man, Michael Howard, and injuring another in December of last year. The details surrounding Howard’s death are particularly gruesome, with reports indicating that his body was found with toes and other parts severed, and various symbols carved into his skin.

Hristov’s troubling history includes a fascination with serial killers and mass shooters, as well as a record of animal cruelty. Police have also uncovered statements from Hristov expressing a desire to ‘hunt homeless people.’

Investigation and Standoff

The investigation took a significant turn when a Reddit post, allegedly made by Hristov himself, hinted at the presence of a serial killer in Louisville. This post, along with video footage of Hristov’s scooter and tactical gear, helped police connect him to the crimes.

On the day of the standoff, police attempted to serve an arrest warrant at Hristov’s home. Surveillance had been ongoing for weeks, and officers waited until his mother left the premises before approaching. During the standoff, Hristov fired at a police drone and made a 911 call stating, ‘I am not here to shoot at SWAT officers, I am here to be shot by them.’

Hristov was armed with a gun and 150 rounds of ammunition, according to his own admission during the call. The standoff ended with police fatally shooting Hristov.

Community Impact

The case has raised concerns about the safety of homeless individuals in the area and the potential for unreported crimes. Police are urging the community to come forward with any additional information that could shed light on other possible offenses committed by Hristov.

Deputy Chief Emily McKinley expressed the community’s shock, stating, ‘This is scary to know that there are people in our community, or there was somebody in our community, that was walking around daily with us and had these intense… ideas.’
