Sheridan County Library Director Updates Community on Children’s Theater Renovation

During a recent appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Sheridan County Public Library System Director Amy Long provided a detailed update on the ongoing renovation of the library’s children’s theater and youth department. The director highlighted the progress made on the theater’s interior and the upcoming improvements that will benefit families throughout the county.

Finishing touches on the children’s theater

Long explained that the children’s theater is now being completed with a flat floor and new lighting fixtures. While the space no longer resembles a traditional theater, the changes are intended to create a flexible environment for a variety of programs. “We are working on the finishing touches in the children’s theater, which no longer looks like a theater,” she said, noting that the flat floor will allow for more adaptable use.

New sliding glass door expands family access

A key feature of the renovation is a sliding glass door, made possible by a generous donation from the Watt Foundation. The door will open the children’s department to the outside, providing additional room for after‑school activities and summer reading programs. “That sliding glass door is going to be able to serve as a way to expand the children’s department to allow more families to be in there at the same time,” Long said.

Youth department awaiting further upgrades

Beyond the theater, the broader youth department remains a work in progress. The space is currently described as a “hodgepodge” while the library awaits the opening of a new room that will accommodate additional furniture and extended programming. Long expressed optimism that once the new room is ready, the department will offer even more resources for young patrons.

Community impact and next steps

The renovations are part of the library system’s ongoing commitment to serve families, support literacy, and provide safe, engaging spaces for children and teens. The director emphasized that the library looks forward to completing the theater upgrades soon and continuing to enhance the youth department as additional space becomes available.

Local residents are encouraged to stay informed about upcoming program schedules and volunteer opportunities through the library’s website and social media channels. The library’s efforts reflect a broader community focus on fostering educational enrichment and family-friendly environments in Sheridan County.
