Oreo and BTS Collaborate on Limited-Edition Korean-Inspired Cookies

Oreo, the iconic cookie brand, has teamed up with the globally renowned K-pop group BTS to introduce a limited-edition cookie that blends cultural flavors with a modern twist. This collaboration, which marks Oreo’s first global partnership with a music group, features the Oreo & BTS Cookies, designed to celebrate BTS’s 13th anniversary.

A Taste of Korean Heritage

The cookies are notable for their unique purple wafers, a first for Oreo, and a brown sugar-pancake flavored filling that mimics the taste of hotteok, a popular Korean street food. This flavor choice is deeply personal to BTS members, who have fond childhood memories of enjoying both hotteok and Oreos. The collaboration aims to bring a piece of Korean heritage to fans around the world, encapsulated in a beloved snack.

According to a press release from Oreo, the cookies will feature 13 different embossments, each designed by BTS, to honor the group’s anniversary. This thoughtful design element adds a layer of personalization and connection for BTS fans, known as ARMY, who are spread across the globe.

Martin Renaud, Mondelez’s chief marketing and sales officer, emphasized the importance of maintaining authenticity while ensuring broad appeal. “You want to be authentic, you want to be differentiated and live an experience. But when you are Oreo, you need to be pleasing a large group of people,” Renaud stated. The development process for the BTS cookie took approximately two years, with the team narrowing down potential flavors before settling on hotteok.

Renaud also expressed his admiration for Korean cuisine, highlighting its rich and diverse flavors. The decision to incorporate a traditional Korean taste into the Oreo brand reflects a growing appreciation for global culinary influences.

Availability and Launch Details

The Oreo & BTS Cookies will be available for presale starting June 1 at OREO.com/UnwrapTheCollab, with a wider release at retailers beginning June 8. Fans and cookie enthusiasts alike are encouraged to act quickly, as these cookies will only be available for a limited time.
