Louisville – The Arrow Fund, a local animal‑rescue organization, is calling on the community for help after a severely injured puppy was found inside a recycling bin on South Jackson Street. The tiny dog, now called Singer, was discovered on Sunday when a group of boys heard her crying from the bin and alerted the rescue group.
How Singer was found
According to Arrow Fund foster caregiver Necey Stidham, the boys approached the bin, heard the whimpering sounds, and opened it to find the helpless animal. “The way she was making sounds to be saved, so one of the kids and the girl decided to name her Singer,” Stidham said.
Serious injuries
A veterinarian who examined Singer estimated she is between six and eight weeks old. She suffered a fractured skull, broken front legs and internal bleeding in one eye. The injuries appear consistent with being stomped and strangled.
Medical needs and fundraising
Volunteer Katie Messenger explained that Singer will require extensive follow‑up care, including splint changes and possible surgery. “Everything is hard right now. Vet care is expensive, and resources are hard to come by,” Messenger said. The Arrow Fund is accepting donations via PayPal and mail to support Singer’s treatment and long‑term foster care.
Call for information
Arrow Fund staff stress that the person who harmed Singer may also pose a risk to other animals or people. “If somebody is willing to do this to an animal, it’s not an unlikely situation where other people are being harmed as well,” Messenger added. Community response
Since being rescued, Singer has begun to enjoy treats and make new friends while staying with Stidham’s foster home. The community’s assistance—whether through tips, donations, or spreading the word—will be crucial in bringing the perpetrator to justice and ensuring Singer receives the care she needs.
