A brush fire erupted south of Mountain Home, Idaho, on Tuesday evening, leading to an emergency alert advising residents to be ready for potential evacuation. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) reported that the fire began around 7:25 p.m., but as of 8:30 p.m., it had not been named or mapped for acreage.
Emergency Alert Issued
The Integrated Public Alert and Warning System issued an alert for Elmore County at 9:02 p.m., which remains in effect until 2 a.m. Wednesday. The alert warned of a large brush fire between Highway 51 and Old U.S. Highway 30, urging residents to stay vigilant and prepare to evacuate if necessary. It also advised those with injuries to seek treatment at the Mountain Home airport.
Efforts to confirm whether evacuations had been ordered were unsuccessful, as KTVB reached out to the Mountain Home Fire Department and dispatch without receiving confirmation. The BLM spokesperson noted that the fire is near the city limits but is being managed by local fire departments. Assistance was requested from the BLM, including one overhead engine and two fire engines.
Photos of the fire have been shared on KTVB’s Idaho Weather Watchers page, providing a visual account of the situation as it unfolds.
