Idaho State University Launches First Three-Year Bachelor’s Program

Idaho State University (ISU) in Pocatello is breaking new ground by offering the first three-year Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree at a public institution in Idaho. This innovative program is designed to help students enter the workforce more quickly, addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in various fields.

Accelerated Degree Pathways

The university has introduced three distinct BAS programs: Law Enforcement Management and Leadership, Applied Business and Professional Sales, and Intelligent and Trustworthy Digital Systems. Each program is tailored to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge for career advancement in their respective areas.

The BAS in Law Enforcement Management and Leadership is aimed at preparing students for administrative roles within law enforcement and public service sectors. This program focuses on developing leadership skills essential for managing teams and operations effectively.

The BAS in Applied Business and Professional Sales emphasizes customer engagement, leadership, and strategic communication. Graduates of this program will be well-prepared to excel in business environments that require strong interpersonal and sales skills.

Lastly, the BAS in Intelligent and Trustworthy Digital Systems provides students with hands-on experience in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. This program is designed to meet the increasing need for professionals capable of building secure and reliable digital systems.

Career Opportunities and Advancement

According to Jerry Anhorn, dean of the ISU College of Technology, these new degree pathways not only accelerate students’ entry into the workforce but also create greater opportunities for career advancement. “These degrees help students move more quickly into meaningful employment,” Anhorn stated in a news release.

ISU’s initiative reflects a broader trend in higher education to offer more flexible and accelerated learning options that align with the needs of today’s job market. By reducing the time required to earn a degree, ISU is providing students with a competitive edge in their professional pursuits.
