Greenville Senior High School marked the completion of a multi‑year improvement project at its historic Sirrine Stadium with a dedication ceremony on August 21. The centerpiece of the upgrades is a new digital video board, named the “Lawson Family Legacy” in honor of lead donor Jeff Lawson and his family.
Funding and community support
The $465,000 project was financed through a capital campaign organized by the Greenville All‑Sports Booster Club, supplemented by funds from the Greenville County School District. Over three years, the Booster Club rallied local businesses, alumni and families to reach the fundraising goal. In addition to the Lawson family, TowneBank contributed as the board’s title sponsor, and several other community members and organizations made donations.
Stadium enhancements
Beyond the video board, Sirrine Stadium received new artificial turf, fresh concrete paint and upgraded facilities, modernizing a venue that has served the Raiders for decades. The improvements are intended to provide a safer, more enjoyable experience for student‑athletes and fans alike.
Remarks from donors and school leaders
Jeff Lawson, whose family’s name now graces the board, said, “This stadium has always meant something special to our family, and it’s an honor to be part of its future.” Principal Dylan Hudson thanked the Lawson family, TowneBank and every donor, noting that the project gives the whole community something to be proud of.
David Lominack, South Carolina president of TowneBank and a Greenville High graduate, highlighted the personal significance of the investment, stating, “TowneBank has found a home in Greenville through its partnership with Dogwood State Bank, completed earlier this year, and is honored to make this investment in the city that shaped so many of us.”
Looking ahead
The upgraded stadium will host the Raiders’ season openers against Fountain Inn High School and future home games, offering students, families and local supporters a modern venue for high‑school athletics and community events. The dedication underscores the collaborative spirit of Greenville’s schools, businesses and families working together to preserve and enhance local landmarks.
