Oregon Lightning Show Resilience Despite Loss to Michigan Arsenal

The Oregon Lightning faced a tough challenge against the Michigan Arsenal, falling 54–33 at the First Interstate Bank Center in Redmond, Oregon. Despite the loss, the Lightning demonstrated offensive resilience, with quarterback Dalton Cole accounting for four touchdowns in the high-scoring non-conference matchup.

The game began with both teams trading touchdowns, but Michigan pulled ahead to a 23–9 lead by the end of the first quarter. By halftime, Michigan extended its lead to 32–9 through strong defensive stops and efficient red-zone execution. However, the Lightning responded in the third quarter, showing improved offensive performance.

Cole completed nine of 31 passes for 99 yards and three passing touchdowns, adding 44 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on seven carries. His performance marked one of his strongest statistical outings of the season. The Lightning’s receiving efforts were spread among several players, with Kris Lewis contributing 33 yards, Prince Shanola 30 yards, and Maurice Ashley 26 yards. Offensive lineman Darius Tolbert also recorded a memorable three-yard “Big Man” touchdown grab.

On the defensive side, Nick Brassell recorded an interception, while Angelo Grose, Caden Campoileti, and Keanu Mailoto each posted multiple tackles for the Lightning. Michigan’s quarterback Malik Henry finished the night with 268 yards and five touchdowns, leading his team to victory.

Despite the setback, the Lightning posted their highest point total since Week three, indicating growth and potential as they prepare for the second half of the Arena Football One season. The team will host the Washington Wolfpack in the Cascade Clash VII, a highly anticipated regional rivalry game. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time, and the game will be broadcast on KTVZ+, The Home Team Network, and the AF1 YouTube Channel.
