San Antonio Nuns Pray with Spurs’ Kornet Before Victory Over Thunder

In a heartwarming display of faith and community spirit, the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco from San Antonio’s West Side attended the Spurs’ Game 4 matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The nuns, seated in the front row at the Frost Bank Center, witnessed the Spurs’ commanding 103-82 victory, which tied the Western Conference finals series.

Faith and Community

Before the game, Spurs center Luke Kornet, a devout Catholic, joined the nuns on the court for a pre-game prayer. This moment of faith quickly gained attention on social media as the Spurs took an early lead and maintained their dominance throughout the game.

Kornet expressed his appreciation for the nuns’ presence, noting the significance of Pentecost for the church and the community. ‘Yeah, it was great to see them. You know, Pentecost, big day for the church, and it was great to see them, obviously a big part of the San Antonio community,’ Kornet said.

Looking Ahead

With the series now tied, Kornet humorously suggested that the nuns should accompany the team to Oklahoma City for Game 5, saying, ‘One-0, pretty good result. It’s not what it’s about, but we’ll take it. We’ve got to fly them to OKC.’

The presence of the Salesian Sisters not only brought a sense of community to the game but also underscored the importance of faith in public life, a value cherished by many in San Antonio.
