Boise County Search and Rescue teams demonstrated their dedication and skill on May 22, when they successfully located and assisted a lost hiker and her two dogs near the north side of Bogus Basin. The hiker, who had contacted emergency services via text message, was unsure of how to return to the Bogus Basin parking lot.
Rescue Operation
Upon receiving the distress call, the Boise County Sheriff’s Office promptly dispatched search and rescue teams to the area. The responders utilized two dirt bikes and a rescue jeep to navigate the challenging terrain. Two rescuers on dirt bikes were able to locate the hiker and her dogs approximately three miles up a trail behind a locked gate.
In a display of resourcefulness, one rescuer carried one of the dogs on his lap, while the other placed the second dog in a backpack. The hiker was safely transported on the back of a dirt bike to a waiting rescue jeep. The team then drove the hiker and her dogs back to her vehicle in the main Bogus Basin parking lot. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the operation.
Safety Recommendations
Boise County Search and Rescue emphasizes the importance of contacting emergency services if one becomes lost, stranded, or injured. They advise individuals to call or text 911 with their location, situation, and any relevant medical information, and to remain in place after making contact to facilitate a swift and efficient rescue.
