Honoring the 13 US Service Members Lost in Operation Epic Fury

The recent conflict with Iran, known as Operation Epic Fury, has claimed the lives of 13 courageous US service members. Among them was Major John ‘Alex’ Klinner from Alabama, a devoted father and Air Force officer, who tragically perished in a plane crash in Iraq. His family remembers him as a passionate outdoorsman and a loving father to his three young children.

Remembering the Fallen

The crash on March 12 in western Iraq also took the lives of five other crew members. Earlier in the month, six service members were killed in an Iranian strike at Kuwait’s Shuaiba port, and another died following an attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.

The families of these heroes are left to mourn not only their loss but also the vibrant lives they led beyond their military service. Major Klinner’s aunt, Jean Marie Dillon, emphasized the importance of remembering these lives, stating, “Military lives are not expendable.”

President Donald Trump, after meeting with some of the families, acknowledged the likelihood of further casualties as the conflict continues. Approximately 400 service members have been wounded, with most injuries being minor, allowing 90% to return to duty.

Personal Stories of Sacrifice

Ariana G. Savino, another victim of the Iraq crash, was a passionate aviator and mentor from Covington, Washington. Her family plans to honor her legacy by establishing an aviation scholarship for Latino youth and women.

Tyler Simmons, a boom operator, expressed his concerns about returning home to his father before his untimely death. His father, Charles Mylo Simmons, recalls his son’s dedication to the military and his family.

Ashley Pruitt, a boom operator from Bardstown, Kentucky, was remembered by her husband as “radiant.” Her commitment to her family and military service was unwavering.

Seth R. Koval, a seasoned combat pilot, fulfilled his lifelong dream of flying. His dedication to training and service was evident throughout his career.

These stories of sacrifice and service remind us of the personal cost of war and the enduring strength of the families left behind. As the nation continues to grapple with the implications of this conflict, we honor the memory of these fallen heroes and their contributions to our country.
