The family and their attorneys viewed the full video, which reportedly shows a police officer forcefully detaining a mother, her daughter, and others outside a neighborhood pool. The officer involved has been placed on leave.
Civil rights activist Minister Dominque Alexander described the video as one of the worst he has seen, stating that the situation escalated when the officer instructed the group not to step on the roadway and one person did. Alexander said the officer can be heard on the video saying to pull the woman’s hair, hit her, tase her, and slam her to the ground.
The family, activists, and attorneys are calling for the officer to be fired and for charges to be brought against him. The Royse City Police Department has dropped all charges related to the incident and is conducting an internal investigation.
