Arlington residents will soon see their daily commute become more colorful as local artist Colton Canava paints murals near Lamar Street, Fielder Street, and North Cooper Street to celebrate the city’s 150th anniversary.

Nature-Inspired Art

Canava has already started working on a wall along North Cooper Street and plans to finish it within a week. He aims to complete all the murals by November. The murals will represent different pieces of Arlington’s natural landscape, including animals and ground-level plant life.

Each mural will have a unique color palette and design, but they will all share the same concept. The piece on North Cooper Street will highlight the Texas Blackland Prairie ecological region, which includes parts of east Tarrant County and Arlington.

Community Support

Council member Mauricio Galante, whose district includes the location of the North Cooper Street mural, notes that the murals are not random and sit at gateways to different parts of town. The murals are funded through the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, the city’s charitable arm.

Galante met Canava during the Arlington Coffee Roasters ribbon-cutting ceremony and decided to commission him for the project. Canava’s work is expected to bring a positive impact to the community, and his soft touch in everything he does will make the murals a beautiful addition to the city.
