Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, has seen a 96% increase in visits to its Fresh Choice Pantry from January to July. This surge in demand has led to an immediate need for canned meats, soups, and cereal.
Supporting the Community
The center serves as an outlet of support for people across Lincoln, providing groceries and hot meals twice a day, seven days a week. In July, almost 10,000 onsite meals were served, and over 500 bags of groceries were distributed.
According to Victoria O’Neil, director of hunger relief and volunteers, the current economic situation has contributed to the increased demand. ‘The way that the economy is right now… Unfortunately, we’re seeing cuts with SNAP benefits. Families are being hit really hard right now,’ she said.
Alynn Sampson, Executive Director, emphasized the importance of donations in ensuring the center’s shelves remain stocked. ‘More and more households are turning to our pantry each week to help put food on the table. We are committed to showing up for every family who needs support, and donations help ensure our shelves stay stocked and ready,’ she said.
