The Tuscaloosa Law Enforcement Academy will host a 40-hour Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training Program, offered at no cost to participants beginning October 26th. This program prepares law enforcement officers to safely and effectively respond to individuals experiencing crises involving mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Course Topics
The program emphasizes practical skills officers can use in the field while strengthening partnerships between law enforcement, behavioral health providers, and community service organizations. Course topics include mental illness and substance use disorder recognition, mental health treatment and the law, effective communication techniques, crisis response, and de-escalation strategies and techniques.
