Troy Jackson, a fifth-generation lumberjack from Allagash, Maine, is the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate. He will face longtime Republican Sen. Susan Collins in the November election.
From Logging to Politics
Jackson’s journey into politics began nearly 30 years ago when he participated in a blockade to protest Canadian loggers who were taking jobs from Maine loggers. The blockade failed, but it led Jackson to realize that he needed to be involved in politics to create change.
Jackson has served in the Maine Legislature and has been a strong advocate for the working class. He has criticized Collins for her vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court, which led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
A Divided Community
The town of Allagash is divided on the Senate race, with some residents supporting Jackson and others backing Collins. Jackson has struggled to compete outside of his hometown, but he believes his experience as a logger and his connection to the community will help him win the election.
