Blanchard, Tuttle, and Deer Creek Water Corporation have implemented tier two water restrictions to conserve water as extreme heat impacts systems across Oklahoma.

Water Restrictions in Place

Triple-digit temperatures are straining water systems across Oklahoma, prompting several cities to implement tier two restrictions to conserve resources. According to Roger Kolman, Blanchard city manager, “This is a preventative measure from making that situation get worse.”

The intense heat over the past few weeks has affected water systems statewide, including in Blanchard. The city has issued a tier two water restriction, which restricts citizens to watering two days a week, on an even-odd schedule.

Blanchard is not alone in taking action. Tuttle and the Deer Creek Water Corporation have also adopted tier two restrictions to address decreasing water capacity. Meanwhile, communities across the metro that purchase water from Oklahoma City remain under a permanent tier one restriction.

Kolman assured residents that the situation is not critical, stating, “The system’s not at a critical state currently. We still have decent pressure, and we still have volume to be able to serve in case we had an emergency.”

The restrictions are designed to prevent the system from draining further, allowing it to replenish capacity and build up pressure. Kolman expects the measures to remain in place until temperatures drop and the system has a chance to recover.
