ESPN analyst Dick Vitale, 87, announced on social media that his recent blood tests came back ‘very good’ after his fifth cancer diagnosis. Vitale has been undergoing immunotherapy treatments, which he says have been ‘very effective in wiping out the cancer.’
Vitale’s Cancer Journey
Vitale was first diagnosed with cancer in 2021 with melanoma. He was later diagnosed with lymphoma and, after being declared cancer-free, learned in 2023 that he had vocal cord cancer. The following year, Vitale was diagnosed with lymph node cancer and underwent surgery to help treat it.
Vitale has worked for years to raise money for The V Foundation for Cancer Research, which was founded by his late friend, college basketball coach Jim Valvano. Vitale received the Jimmy V Award for perseverance in 2022.
