Lori Rook has won the Republican nomination for Missouri’s 20th Senate District, defeating incumbent Sen. Curtis Trent. As of 10:22 p.m. on August 4, Rook had 53% of the vote with 93% of the vote counted, according to the Associated Press.

The primary election was the most expensive in the state, with Rook loaning herself $300,000 for her campaign. She will face Democrat Sean Falconer in the November general election.

Rook, a Springfield native and graduate of Nixa High School, has made AI data centers and a lack of transparency in the Senate key issues in her campaign. She has called for a statewide ban on data centers and has criticized Trent’s record in the state legislature.

Trent, who currently serves as assistant majority floor leader, had intended to run for majority floor leader in 2027. Rook’s victory could have significant implications for Senate leadership.
