Buck Creek State Park, located in Clark County, Ohio, is drawing visitors with its latest enhancements, including a new nature center and upgraded campground facilities. These improvements are part of the park’s most significant updates in years, aimed at enriching the outdoor experience for families and nature enthusiasts alike.
New Nature Center and Marina Shop
The newly opened nature center at Buck Creek Marina is the highlight of the park’s renovations. Park Manager Ed McGowan expressed excitement about the potential new programming that the center will offer, thanks to the recent hiring of a naturalist. The center features interactive displays where visitors can engage with the local environment, such as trying out a kayak or standing beside life-sized fish species from the C.J. Brown Reservoir.
Alongside the nature center, the marina shop has been rebuilt and now offers a variety of amenities, including eight rotating flavors of Perry’s ice cream, bait, tackle, and souvenirs. The shop operates seasonally, with extended hours during peak summer months.
Campground and Trail Enhancements
The park’s campground has also seen a complete overhaul, with enlarged camping pads, updated electrical hookups, a new playground, and a shower house. These upgrades are part of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ ongoing investment in Buck Creek State Park, following the 2024 renovation of some park cabins.
Buck Creek’s 13 trails, including the accessible Coyote Run, cater to various ability levels. The park uses the OuterSpatial app to keep trail information current, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all hikers.
Community Impact and Accessibility
The park’s location along Interstate 70 makes it easily accessible for visitors from Springfield, Dayton, Columbus, and beyond. The improvements have already led to an increase in visitors, with events like the annual campout selling out rapidly. McGowan emphasized the importance of safety, particularly for water sports, urging visitors to always wear life jackets.
