Santa Fe Offers Cooling Resources

The city of Santa Fe is offering several resources to help residents and visitors stay cool during the hot temperatures. Several city-operated facilities will serve as places where people can escape the heat, including public libraries, the Mary Esther Gonzales Senior Center, recreation centers, and indoor swimming pools.

Cooling Resources

Santa Fe’s public libraries are open Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Libraries are closed on Sundays. The senior center is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Residents can also cool off at several recreation facilities. While visitors may use air-conditioned lobbies at no cost, standard admission fees apply for access to pools and other recreational amenities.

Santa Fe Trails has temporarily suspended its joyriding and loitering policy. The change allows passengers to remain aboard air-conditioned buses for longer periods as temperatures remain elevated.

City officials are also reminding the public to practice heat safety by drinking water regularly, wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, applying sunscreen, avoiding strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, and taking breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces.
