Fired Police Chief Fights Crash Ticket

John Lau, the former Titusville police chief, is fighting a $169 ticket he received after crashing a city-owned SUV. Lau was fired for refusing to take a breathalyzer test after the June 23 crash in Brevard County.

Crash Details

Florida Highway Patrol reported no indicators of impairment, but a bottle of vodka was found in the front of the mangled car. Titusville police claimed they smelled alcohol on Lau’s breath.

Lau has pleaded not guilty and is now contesting the ticket. Deputy Chief Tyler Wright was appointed as acting chief of police after Lau’s firing.
