The new film ‘Rosebush Pruning’ features a dysfunctional family with a passion for fashion. Costume designer Bina Daigeler worked with the film’s director, Karim Aïnouz, to create outfits that reflected the family’s wealth and style.
Creating the Family’s Look
Daigeler sourced clothing from a variety of designers, including vintage stores in Barcelona. She wanted to create a look that was both elegant and distorted, reflecting the family’s complex relationships and personalities.
The film’s four siblings, played by Riley Keough, Jamie Bell, Callum Turner, and Lukas Gage, each have their own unique sense of style. Daigeler worked with the actors to create a wardrobe that suited their characters, from Anna’s classic Chanel to Robert’s bold Versace prints.
A ‘Dress Up Party’ Approach
Daigeler described the costume design process as a ‘dress up party,’ where she and the actors would try on different outfits and see what worked best for each scene. This approach allowed her to create a sense of freedom and experimentation, which suited the film’s themes of family, identity, and creativity.
