A dog is dead after a fire on the Northwest Side that is considered suspicious. The San Antonio Fire Department was called to a duplex in the Shakertown area near Callaghan Road around 4 a.m. on Friday.
When crews arrived, they were met by flames coming from the front and back of a duplex. Heavy smoke was seen coming from the building, and firefighters focused the attack on the outside of the building before knocking down the flames inside.
When the fire was out, crews found a dog inside that was unable to escape and died. No people were inside the home. The other unit in the duplex suffered considerable smoke damage, but not much else.
Investigators think the fire could have been intentional, although no cause has been determined as of yet. Arson investigators could be called to the scene depending on what the early investigation shows.
