The New Mexico State University football team has added 22 new defensive and special teams players for the 2026 season. The team has 20 new defensive players and two new special teams players.
Defensive Players
The defensive additions include 11 transfers from other colleges, six from junior colleges, and five high school recruits. Some notable players include Jordan-Lebron Downey, a defensive lineman from Livingstone College, and Zhakius Thomas, a defensive end from Trinity Valley Community College.
Special Teams
The special teams newcomers include a kicker and a punter, both of whom arrived via the transfer portal. Ilya Uvaydov, the new kicker, previously played for Utah Tech, while Brody Richter, the new punter, previously played for Minnesota.
