A weeping willow tree, a staple of Boston’s landscape, collapsed into the Boston Public Garden’s lagoon on Wednesday. The tree, which was 68 years old, had extensive internal decay despite showing no visible signs of damage.
According to a spokesperson for Boston Parks and Recreation, the lifespan of a weeping willow in an urban landscape is typically between 30 and 50 years. Matt Marcil, a daily visitor to the park, expressed sadness at the loss of the tree, which held sentimental value for many due to its appearance in the movie ‘Good Will Hunting’.
