United Way of Central Oklahoma is running its annual school supply drive from June 1 to July 24, aiming to provide essential supplies for students and ease the burden on families and teachers.
Supporting Local Families
The drive, part of the organization’s Worldwide Day of Action, has been extended from a single day to two months. Sara Holt, president and CEO of United Way of Central Oklahoma, highlighted the importance of the initiative, explaining that while new school supplies may seem small, they can have a significant impact on families across the state.
“It’s an opportunity for our community to give back and to help support school kids as they return to school,” said Holt. “We want parents to not have to worry about that extra burden of those costs. We want teachers to have a classroom full of kids ready to learn, and we want our community to have the opportunity to make that happen.”
Last year, the community donated more than 8,000 items, valued at over $16,000. This year, the organization hopes to exceed that number by collecting essential classroom supplies for students of all ages.
There are multiple ways to contribute. Supplies can be dropped off at United Way’s office, or items can be ordered online and shipped directly to their location.
