Dozens of everyday products sold across the United States have been recalled over the past two weeks, affecting everything from food and pet products to household items and outdoor equipment. Federal safety agencies have issued a steady stream of alerts warning consumers about potential health and safety hazards, including contamination, undeclared allergens, choking risks, fire hazards, and defective products.
Recalled Food Items
Several food items have been recalled, including potato chips, alfredo sauce, mac and cheese, sausage patties and nuggets, chicken sausage, and baby formula. The recalls are due to potential salmonella contamination, undeclared allergens, and other safety concerns.
For example, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has classified an ongoing recall of nearly 685,000 bags of popular potato chips as a Class I recall related to potential salmonella contamination. A Class I designation is for ‘a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death,’ according to the FDA.
Recalled Household Items
In addition to food items, several household products have been recalled, including Target baby wipes, high-end shampoo, Cuisinart gas grills, and air conditioners. These recalls are due to potential health and safety hazards, such as laceration injury risk and fire hazards.
Consumers can stay on top of recalls by signing up for USDA and FDA alerts, using apps to track their purchases, and setting up Google alerts for their favorite foods or allergens.
