As the summer travel season continues, many Americans are looking for ways to make their trips more memorable and budget-friendly. According to new data from the Bank of America Institute, 77% of Americans plan to travel this summer, up from 74% in 2025 and 72% in 2024.

Gen Z is leading the change in travel trends, with 93% planning to travel this summer. Younger travelers are often combining trips with concerts, music festivals, sporting events, and weddings, a concept known as “travel stacking.” This approach allows them to stretch their budget and experience more activities in one trip.
Technology is also playing a significant role in how people plan their summer travel. More than half of Americans (55%) are using AI to help organize their trips, comparing costs, finding new destinations, and getting general advice. Additionally, nearly half of Americans (46%) plan to redeem financial rewards to help offset vacation costs this summer.
For consumers, the key to successful summer travel is to be intentional and strategic. Setting a budget before booking, deciding where to spend and save, using rewards strategically, and considering off-peak travel days can all help make trips more affordable and enjoyable.
