Danny’s Burger Shack, a Kansas City, Missouri-based restaurant, is expanding to Shawnee, taking over the former Bar West space. The locally owned bar and grill closed its doors in May after more than 15 years. Danny’s Burger Shack is currently renovating the space, with plans to open in August.
Menu and Renovations
Danny’s serves a variety of burgers made with fresh, never frozen beef, toppings, and house-made sauces like whiskey barbecue and jalapeño jam. The restaurant is also known for its hand-breaded onion rings, available while supplies last. Co-owners Mark Denton and Joe Sessel are spearheading the design and layout of the new Shawnee restaurant, which will echo the original’s vibe but with more space.
The restaurant’s original owners, Daniel and Niki Kidwell, initially opened Danny’s Burger Shack as a food truck. The food truck quickly gained a local following, outgrowing the limitations of serving burgers on wheels. The restaurant opened its storefront in Kansas City, Missouri’s Northland in August 2022.
Community Focus
Danny’s Burger Shack gives discounts to people who work in law enforcement, the military, and other similar backgrounds. This mission is something that Sessel, a former steelworker, appreciates. The restaurant aims to be an approachable, everybody-kind-of-place.
