A driver is on the run after a high-speed chase in Johnston County ended in a crash. The pursuit started near NC-242 in Johnston County sometime after 10 p.m. Authorities said deputies attempted to pursue a driver but they refused to stop.
The vehicle continued through the county traveling at speeds up to 100 mph. State Highway Patrol were called to assist as the chase entered into Sampson County. Sampson County Sheriff’s deputies also responded.
Several miles later, authorities said the driver collided into a deputy’s patrol vehicle before crashing into a ditch on Old Cotton Gin Road. The person ran away before they could be apprehended, according to officials.
The deputy involved in the collision was not hurt, and there was minor damage to their vehicle. Investigators initiated search efforts using drones around the area of the crash.
