United Way of Greater Texarkana has launched its annual Stuff the Bus campaign to ensure students in area school districts have access to essential supplies throughout the school year. This year, the campaign is seeking monetary donations that will be distributed directly to participating school districts to support their campus care closets.
Supporting Local Students
According to United Way President and CEO Mark Bledsoe, 100% of the money raised will go to about 35 school districts, with no funds used for United Way or administrative costs. Care closets provide students with essential items, including personal hygiene products, feminine hygiene products, clothing, and school supplies. Access to the closets is provided discreetly through school counselors, social workers, and nurses.
During the 2025-26 school year, the Stuff the Bus campaign provided more than $27,000 in school supplies and funding to local schools. "Back-to-school season can be stressful for families facing financial challenges," said Jennifer Lewis, chair of the Stuff the Bus committee. "With the help of our generous community, we’re making sure every child has a strong start and a successful school year."
Funding will be distributed to participating school districts based on student enrollment and socioeconomic need, Bledsoe said. Community members can support the campaign by making an online donation, mailing a check to United Way of Greater Texarkana, or sharing the organization’s Stuff the Bus campaign on social media.
