Protestors gathered in Middletown Wednesday morning in response to the death of a 26-year-old man in Biddeford, Maine who was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Monday.
Details of the Incident
An ICE spokesperson said the agents were conducting “a targeted surveillance on the last known address of an illegal immigrant with a final order of removal. An illegal immigrant departed the residence in a vehicle. ICE law enforcement attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. The vehicle attempted to flee the scene and fearing for public safety an officer discharged his weapon.”
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the victim, John Sebastian Guerrero of Colombia, was not the target of the arrest warrant. Guerrero was authorized to work in the United States and had been issued a Social Security Number.
Among the protestors were members of Middlesex Indivisible, a group that holds protests criticizing the Trump administration and the actions of ICE in conducting deportations.
