A major water main break has completely shut down a busy stretch of West Bay Street in Tampa, threatening to snarl local traffic for the next few days.
Repair Work Underway
Starting at 8:00 a.m. on July 15, city crews blocked off all lanes of West Bay Street between South Magnolia Avenue and Bayshore Boulevard. The Tampa Water Department is currently on-site working to fix the fractured pipe.
To help drivers navigate around the sudden gridlock, the city has placed barricades and detour signs throughout the immediate area. Local authorities are urging motorists to exercise extra caution when driving near the work zone, noting that traffic routing may change as the repair process progresses.
If everything goes according to plan, the city expects the repair work to wrap up and normal traffic patterns to return by 4:30 p.m. on July 17. However, that timeline depends heavily on the weather, and officials warned that crews might have to come back at a later date to finish up secondary repairs.
