Skaters in Des Moines have signed a pledge to protect and preserve Lauridsen Skate Park after extensive vandalism caused nearly $25,000 in damages to the restrooms in May. The restrooms have now reopened thanks to a donation from Plumb Supply Company, which provided new industrial-grade fixtures.
Skate DSM invited skaters to sign the pledge, which encourages visitors to report trouble, pick up trash, and take ownership of the space. Polk County Supervisor Angela Connolly recognized the contribution from Plumb Supply and encouraged skaters to sign the pledge to help maintain the park.
Jeffrey Krugler has been charged with criminal mischief in connection to the vandalism and is scheduled to return to court later this month. The community is coming together to protect the park and ensure it remains a safe and enjoyable space for all users.
