A fire broke out on a pontoon boat off the coast of San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in one fatality and one person missing. The vessel, carrying 19 people, was about 600 yards from Alcatraz Island when the fire started.
Fire Lt. Mariano Elias reported that crews found a capsized, three-deck pontoon vessel, and all those rescued from the water were taken to Gashouse Cove Marina. The Coast Guard and Oakland police also assisted in the rescue efforts.
A man and a woman were seen wrapped in blankets and sitting near an ambulance, according to live video from the scene. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
