A Red Flag Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, effective from noon Wednesday to 9 AM PDT Thursday. The warning affects the mountains and south coast of Santa Barbara County, as well as the Ventura County mountains and Interstate 5 corridor in Los Angeles County.
Fire Weather Conditions
Strong northwest to north winds, hot temperatures, and low relative humidity will produce critical fire-weather conditions late Wednesday through early Thursday. Winds are expected to be 20 to 30 mph, with gusts of 35 to 55 mph, strongest in Sundowner wind-prone areas of southern Santa Barbara County. Relative humidity will be 10 to 25 percent.
The hot air mass will contribute to the potential for significant vertical plume growth, and if fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorable for extreme fire behavior, rapid fire growth, and long-range spotting, which could threaten life and property. Residents near wildland interfaces should be prepared to evacuate if a wildfire breaks out.
