Abby Maci Reckard, a mother of two, was feeling unfulfilled in her remote marketing job and sought a space where she could connect with others and share creative energy. This desire led her to purchase a 154-year-old Danish church in Fletcher Place, Indianapolis, and transform it into Lille Bønne Community Living Room.
A Space for Community
The cafe and community center aims to revitalize connection and neighborhood sustainability, offering a kid-friendly environment where adults can linger and socialize. Reckard has repurposed wood from the church’s pews to create features such as a large dinner table, paying homage to the building’s past.
Lille Bønne has partnered with local businesses, including Calvin Fletcher’s Coffee Company and Chilly Water Brewing Company, to create a collaborative and supportive community. The space also hosts various classes, including yoga, kids’ story circles, and music classes, promoting art, play, and connection for both kids and adults.
Reckard’s vision for Lille Bønne is to provide a welcoming space where people can come together, fostering a sense of community and belonging. As she works with community members to offer classes and events, she hopes to create a space that is truly a hub for neighborhood connection and growth.
