About 200 members of the Pokémon GO community participated in the Pokémon GO Fest: Global weekend at Spring Lake Park in Texarkana, Texas.
Community Engagement
Community ambassador Deborah Bearden said, ‘Yesterday, we had 195 checked in. Today, we got 166 checked in already. That’s not a bad turnout.’ Bearden and ambassador Nicholas Ebel used the app Campfire for people to check into the event and receive in-game extras.
Players could participate in gym raids by using a Remote Raid Pass, allowing them to join the fun from anywhere as long as they knew a person physically in attendance. The event saw a lot of local players, many of whom drove from nearby cities to participate.
Cristal Trejo of Idabel, Oklahoma, attended the event, saying, ‘The Texarkana community ambassador had put it on Facebook, so I really wanted to finally go somewhere close where Pokémon was going to be nearby us since every other location is far, like Dallas and Oklahoma City.’ Estefania Luna and her son came from Chicago to attend the event, finding the Texarkana community to be very welcoming.
