The City of Dallas is implementing furloughs for most of its non-emergency employees, resulting in the closure of several public-facing services and facilities, including libraries and city hall. This move is part of an effort to address the city’s $30 million budget shortfall.
Furlough Details
The first of three scheduled furlough days is set for July 10, with the remaining two days planned for September 4 and September 28. Dallas City Manager Kimberly Tolbert announced the furlough plans, which have caused some confusion among city employees.
The city is also facing a $51 million shortfall for the upcoming fiscal year, prompting various departments to explore service cuts. Proposed reductions to libraries and community centers have drawn scrutiny from residents and council members.
Budget workshops and district-specific town hall meetings are scheduled for August to discuss the city’s financial situation.
