The 2028 Olympics are two years away, but a golden opportunity arrives for anyone who wants to join the team of volunteers that will be a crucial part of the international event featuring more than 50 sports at dozens of venues when the competition returns to Los Angeles for a third time.
Volunteer Opportunities
Applications open for 2028 Olympics and Paralympics Games-time volunteers, who will be matched with a variety of roles in the categories of communications, driving, experience, medical, ceremonies, operations, sport and technology.
About 60,000 volunteers will be part of the effort. Members of the LA28 Volunteer Crew will be on the Olympics stage, assigned to roles like welcoming guests, guiding athletes, providing medical and translation services, helping with venue operations and more.
Application Process
The Games-time volunteer portal will allow applicants to indicate their top-three preferred role categories. No guarantees, but LA28 will try to match volunteers with those choices.
A few more details on that minimum time commitment of 10 non-consecutive shifts, which will last about eight hours apiece. The 10-shift requirement is for either the Olympics or Paralympics.
Most of the volunteer opportunities are in the Los Angeles area, but not all 2028 events are in Southern California. Opportunities will be available in Oklahoma City, New York, Columbus, Nashville, St Louis, San José and San Diego.
